IGPS SECRETARIAT OFFICE OF THE INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE

FORCE HEADQUARTERS.

INTRODUCTION:

In December, 1987, the Inspector-General of Police Secretariat was established with the main objective of being the clearing house for all matters that require the IGP’s attention and forwarding feedback to the relevant organs of the Force among others. The secretariat was moved from Lagos to Abuja.

2. It is in pursuance of this that a schedule of duties for the officers and men is drawn up for effective administration of this new department.

3. The functions of the Secretariat which is directly responsible to the IGP. Include the following:-

(i) Receiving of 24 hours briefings from the Directors of Operations, Investigations and Intelligence, Finance and Administration, Logistics and Supply and Training Command, as well as the Office of the Force Secretary.

(ii) Processing of such matters that are addressed to the Inspector-General of Police for his information and upon receipt of the IGP’s reactions, forward same to the Directors and others as appropriate.

(iii) Preparation of important speeches, memoranda and other write-up of the IGP.

(iv) Coverage of all IGPs Tours both local and foreign, at his (IGPs) instance as well as covering his important meetings and conferences.

(v) Compilation of Daily SITREPS from DOPS for the IGP.

(vi) Treating of petitions and complaints received by the IGP.

(vii) Daily cutting of newspaper articles that are of interest to the Police for IGPs consumption and directives.

OFFICE OF THE PRINCIPAL STAFF OFFICER TO THE INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE (DCP)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector-General of Police is directly responsible to the Inspector-General of Police and his duties include:-

(i) Preparation of memoranda for the IGP to the Federal Government.

(ii) Secretary to IGP’s important meetings.

(iii) Arranging and co-ordinating all important local and foreign visits to the IGP.

(iv) Covering and accompanying the Inspector-General of Police on foreign or local tours.

(v) Preparation of important speeches for the IGP.

(vi) Coverage of inspection tours of the IGP.

(vii) The coverage of all important meetings and conferences with IGP.

(viii) Co-ordination of all matters referred to the Secretariate.

(ix) Processing of matters bordering on promotion, Discipline and Petitions coming from the Force Secretary to the Inspector-General of Police to the Force Secretary.

(x) General direction of all the Staff in the office of the Secretariate of the IGP.

(xi) Supervision of personnel in the IGP’s Hot-Line room.

(xii) General maintenance of the IGP’s office.

STAFF OFFICER (1) CSP

He is responsible to the Principal staff Officer to IGP and his duties are as follows:-


(i) He is in charge of investigations.

(ii) Preparation of important speeches for the IGP.

(iii) Compilation of daily SITREPS from DOPS and CIB for the IGP.

(iv) Treatment of matters that are secret and confidential in nature.

(v) Treatment of matters from DLS to IGP with the DLS personnel.

(vi) Treatment of petitions, criticisms and complaints from members of the public against Policemen.

(vii) Treatment of complaints or petitions from members of the Police Force against Police personnel.


STAFF OFFICER (II) (SP)

He is responsible to the Principal staff Officer to IGP and his duties are as follows:-

(i) He is in charge of administration in the Secretariat.

(ii) Preparation of important speeches for the IGP.

(iii) Compilation of daily SITREPS from DOPS and CIB for the IGP .

(iv) Treatment of matters that are secret and confidential in nature.

(v) Treatment of petitions, criticisms and complaints from members of the public against Police Personnel. A.


STAFF OFFICER (III) (SP)

He is responsible to the Principal staff Officer to IGP and his duties are as includes:-

(i) Treatment of all legal matters.

(ii) Treatment of petitions, criticisms and complaints from members of the public against Policemen.

(iii) Treatment of petitions, criticisms and complaints from members of the public against Policemen.

(iv) Preparation of important speeches for the IGP.

(v) Treatment of matters from Training Command to IGP and those from IGP to Training Command.


STAFF OFFICER (IV) (DSP)

He is responsible to the Principal staff Officer to IGP and his duties are as follows:-

(i) Preparation of important speeches for the IGP.

(ii) Daily press cutting of articles affecting the Police Force, for the IGPs consumption and action/directives.

(iii) Compilation of daily SITREPS from DOPS and CIB for the IGP.

(iv) Treatment of matters from DOPs to IGP and from IGP to DOPs.

(v) Generally assisting staff Officers 1-3 in their functions.

STAFF OFFICER (V) (DSP)

He is responsible to the Principal staff Officer to IGP and his duties are as includes:-

(i) Preparation of important speeches for the IGP.

(ii) Daily press cutting of articles affecting the Police Force, for the consumption and action/directives of IGP.

(iii) Compilation of daily SITREPS from DOPS and CIB for the IGP.

(iv) Treatment of matters from DOPs to IGP and from IGP to DOPs.

STAFF OFFICER (VI) (DSP)

He is responsible to the Principal staff Officer to IGP and his duties are as includes:-

(i) Preparation of important speeches for the IGP.

(ii) Daily press cutting of articles affecting the Police Force, for the consumption and action/directives of IGP.

(iii) Compilation of daily SITREPS from DOPS and CIB for the IGP.

(iv) Treatment of matters from DOPs to IGP and from IGP to DOPs.

(v) Generally assisting staff Officers 1-3 in their functions.

P A (I) (CSP)

He is responsible to the Principal staff Officer to IGP and his duties are as follows:-

(i) Personal Assistant to the IGP.

(ii) Preparation of important speeches for IGP.

(iii) Treatment of matters from the Directorate of Finance and Administration including Budget, by liaising with personnel of the DFA.

(iv) Treatment of matters from the office of the Force Secretary and preparation of replies from the Inspector-General of police to such matters.

(v) Attending to all matters as may be directed by IGP.

P A (II) (DSP)

He is responsible to the Principal staff Officer to IGP and his duties are as follows:-

(i) Personal Assistance to the IGP.

(ii) Accompanying the IGP during his daily movements.

(iii) Arranging some appointments for IGP and handling of IGP’s visitors on a daily basis.

(iv) Keeping track of daily functions, invitations etc involving the IGP as may be directed by the IGP.
